Peugeot 207 Launched OTR - RM72,888

We’re reporting live from Putrajaya, where ex-PM Tun Dr Mahathir has just unwrapped the Peugeot 207 moments ago. Officially, they’re calling the car just 207 without the ‘Sedan’ in the name, although this isn’t the same car as the B-segment 207 supermini sold in Europe, but a booted version of the 206 with the marque’s current feline face. Assembled at Naza’s Gurun plant, the 207 is priced at RM72,888 OTR including insurance.

Powered by a DOHC 16-valve 1.6-litre engine with 110 bhp and 147 Nm of torque produced from 4,000 rpm, the 207 uses a 4-speed automatic gearbox with Tiptronic. This isn’t the 1.6-litre Prince engine in found in the 308, but the figures are a big upgrade from the 206 Bestari’s 75 bhp/120 Nm. An approximate top speed of 180 km/h is possible, according to official material.

Size wise, the 207 measures 4,235 mm long, 1,699 mm wide and 1,447 mm tall. To give you an idea on where these figures stand, a Toyota Vios is 65 mm longer than the Peugeot, equally as wide at 1.7 metres but sits 13 mm lower. The 207′s 2,443 mm wheelbase is unchanged from the 206 hatchback and is shorter than Vios’. That big boot holds up to 420 litres of cargo.

The suspension consists of MacPherson struts up front and a torsion beam at the rear, while the brakes are ventilated discs in front coupled with rear drums. ABS, EBD and Emergency Brake Assist are standard along with dual front airbags (passenger’s airbag can be deactivated). Those with young children will be happy to find two ISOFIX points in the rear seats.

Equipment wise, the most affordable European badged car in Malaysia comes with things like automatic air con, auto headlights and wipers, MP3 stereo with Bluetooth, USB and AUX input, trip computer, leather steering and an “instrument panel made by luxury watchmaker Jaeger”. That’s quite a lot of kit for the price.

Kia focus on style & technology in Paris Motorshow

Kia’s 2010 Paris Motor Show stand will major on striking design and new technologies. Taking centre stage and making its world premiere will be the eye-catching, compact and unique electric POP concept, designed by Kia’s European design team under the direction of Peter Schreyer, Kia’s Chief Design Officer, and Gregory Guillaume, Kia Europe’s Chief Designer.
In addition to POP, Kia will also be displaying a number of striking production models which reinforce the company’s commitment to developing its design language – and putting this into practice with real-world models.

Chief among these will be an all-new D-segment contender called Kia Optima. The new model will make its European debut at the Paris Motor Show before going on sale in select European countries this year. Sales in Western Europe will commence in 2011.

Embodying what Peter Schreyer calls “a bold, athletic and visual sporting energy”, which is carried through from the exterior to the car’s involving driving dynamics, Kia Optima is expected to significantly grow Kia’s market share in the D-segment.

The stylish sedan is longer, lower, wider and has a longer wheelbase than any previous D-segment offering from Kia. It will be available in Europe with a host of high-technology features and with a choice of either a new ‘U2’ 1.7-litre VGT diesel engine (136 ps*) or an all-new technically-advanced ‘Nu’ 2.0-litre CVVL (continuously variable valve lift) gasoline engine (170 ps*).

The second of Kia’s design-led production models at Paris will be the stunning new Kia Sportage compact SUV, which has received praise from media and public alike since launch. New Sportage will soon be available with two additional engine options – both smaller capacity, fitted with fuel-stretching technology and mated exclusively to 2WD drivetrains and six-speed manual transmissions – to offer even greater efficiency.

Demonstrating Kia’s ongoing commitment to minimising its vehicles’ impact on the environment, the manufacturer’s Paris stand will also feature a number of ‘green’ models. The three environmentally-focused vehicles – Kia cee’d and Venga low emissions models, and an innovative mild hybrid Kia Sportage concept – have an average tailpipe CO2 figure of just 108 g/km and will be displayed in a distinct ‘green zone’ on the stand.

Green Light by PSA for 207 in Gurun Plant- SM Nasa

Nasim Sdn Bhd reports that all systems are go for the ASEAN production of the Peugeot 207 Sedan, manufactured in Naza Automotive Manufacturing’s plant in Gurun. PSA Peugeot Citroen Asian sales director Jean-Yves Dossal and PSA Group Asian operations CEO Gregoire Olivier visited the NAM plant and gave their seal of approval.

“We are happy to report that all systems are ‘Go’ for the 207. It is a first step towards an increased Peugeot presence in Asean, using Malaysia as its base. PSA Group’s support is a sign of determination to further improve the efficiency of its global production system,” said Nasim CEO SM Nasarudin SM Nasimuddin.

The Gurun plant will churn out 5,000 units of the 207 annually for the domestic and ASEAN market.

KUALA LUMPUR 1 Okt. - Pengimport dan pengedar tunggal kenderaan Peugeot, Nasim Sdn. Bhd., menyasar jualan sebanyak 8,000 buah pada tahun depan dengan jangkaan model terbaru Peugeot 207 sebagai paling laris dalam rangkaian produk.

Model 207 yang bakal dilancarkan November ini oleh Perdana Menteri, Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak dijangka dijual pada harga yang paling kompetitif setanding dengan kereta buatan Jepun dalam kelasnya.

"Harga yang ditawarkan adalah cukup menarik dan setanding dengan kereta buatan Jepun yang mana pembeli tidak akan rugi kerana akan memiliki sebuah kereta berteknologi Eropah pada harga kereta Jepun," kata Ketua Pegawai Operasi Nasim Sdn. Bhd., Samson Anand George sempena lawatan media ke kilang Naza Automotive Manufacturing di Gurun, Kedah baru-baru ini.

Peugeot 207 atau nama kodnya T33 merupakan sebuah kereta sedan empat pintu dan memiliki pelbagai ciri-ciri menarik sebagaimana yang ditawarkan kepada model-model Peugeot sebelumnya.

Walaupun dipasang secara terurai di mana komponennya dibawa dari Perancis dan China, ia masih mengekalkan kualiti dan standard antarabangsa yang ketat yang mana beberapa jurutera Peugeot ditempatkan di kilang itu bagi memastikan ia memenuhi spesifikasi yang diperlukan.

Menurut Anand George, pihaknya menyasar menjual 5,000 hingga 6,000 buah kereta sedan baharu itu pada tahun depan dengan 30 peratus daripada jualan itu adalah eksport ke negara-negara jiran seperti Thailand, Indonesia, Singapura dan Brunei.

Beliau berkata, terdapat banyak kereta jenama Eropah yang mula mencatatkan kemajuan di negara ini ketika ini.

"Dengan cadangan nilai Peugeot dan peletakan jenama yang kami cipta, saya yakin kami akan berjaya mencapai sasaran kami tahun depan," katanya.

Walaupun syarikat itu mungkin tidak mencapai paras jualan awal 3,800 buah tahun ini, ia tetap yakin dengan prospeknya pada masa depan.

"Kami menjangka mencapai sekurang-kurangnya 3,400 hingga 3,500 berikutan ketiadaan stok dan model tertentu, terutamanya model yang baru dilancar 3008.

"Selain itu, kami masih mempunyai 1,000 kereta yang masih lagi belum dihantar kepada pembeli," kata Anand George.

Ketika ini, syarikat itu sedang dalam perancangan membuka tiga lagi pusat 3S (Jualan, Servis dan Alat-Alat Ganti) dengan jumlah kos RM15 juta.

"Pada dasarnya, kami mahu menubuhkan pusat 3S di setiap pasaran utama di negara ini."

Setakat ini, syarikat itu telah merangkumi 80 peratus daripada semua pasaran utama dalam negara dengan 20 pusat di seluruh negara.

Syarikat itu juga menjangka memperuntukkan kira-kira RM8 juta bagi pengiklanan dan aktiviti promosi pada akhir tahun.

Baru-baru ini Nasim memeterai Memorandum Persefahaman dengan Peugeot untuk memasang sedan segmen-C T73 di kilang Naza Automotive Manufacturing di sini.

"Kami berharap dapat melancarkan T73 pada 2012, dan tahun depan kami akan melancarkan tiga lagi model yang akan menjadi kenderaan pelbagai guna (MPV), dan dua lagi kereta berorientasikan gaya hidup pasaran khusus," katanya.

Dengan sokongan kilang pemasangan di Gurun, syarikat itu merancang lebih banyak aktiviti pada masa depan.

According to a report by Bernama, Nasim COO Mr Samson Anand George revealed to a group of media visiting Naza’s Gurun assembly plant up north that the Peugeot 207 Sedan that we’ve spied prowling the streets of the Klang Valley while sporting minimal disguise will be launched November this year.

“I can assure you that the pricing will be very competitive. We aim to sell 5k to 6k units of the Peugeot 207 Sedan a year, with 30% of total sales being exports to neighboring countries like Thailand, Indonesia, Singapore and Brunei,” said Mr Samson Anand George.

The 207 Sedan will be the little brother of the 408 Sedan, due in 2012

Nasim is currently working on three additional 3S centers at a total cost of RM15 million. The 207 Sedan will be the latest model to join the current stable of CKD and CBU models such as the 407, the 308 and the 3008.

From what we understand there are also plans to bring in the Peugeot 5008 7-seater MPV sometime next year, in addition to two other ‘lifestyle-oriented’ cars, which I am taking a wild guess to be the drop top Peugeot 308CC and the sexy Peugeot RCZ. They are also on track to launching a locally assembled ‘Peugeot T73′ C-segment sedan in 2012, which should very likely be the Peugeot 408.

Chung Sung-Eun, the co-CEO of South Korea’s Kia Motors has resigned to take responsibility for the mass vehicle recalls the carmaker is facing. Chung, also a vice chairman of the Hyundai-Kia Automotive Group, will see his duties be assumed by co-CEO and president Seo Yeoung-jong and co-president Lee Hyeong-geun.

Kia had to issue a global recall of 85,900 vehicles over the past week. The cause of the recall is defective electrical wiring that can potentially cause fires, and the four models involved are the Soul, Sorento and Borrego SUVs, and the Cadenza sedan.

In China, Dongfeng Yueda Kia Motor Co, a Kia JV company, separately recalled 18,147 Sorento, Borrego and Soul models, while in the USA, 35,000 vehicles are involved. All of the US market cars involved rolled out from South Korea except for the Sorento R. In its domestic market, 18,000 vehicles will have to be brought in for rectification.

No accidents or injuries related to the defective wiring have been reported so far.

The Peugeot 3008 crossover, or SUV, as Peugeot prefers to call it in Malaysia, was launched hours ago in Kuala Lumpur. With big ads all over the papers today, all that was left a secret was the price, and it has been revealed that the 3008 will cost RM143,888 on the road inclusive of insurance. Pearl white is a RM1,500 cost option. That’s lower than the previously indicated RM150K ballpark price and undercuts the Honda CR-V by about RM6,000.

That sum will buy you a long list of equipment. The 3008 is five-star Euro NCAP rated and it comes with six airbags, ESP, ABS, EBD and Brake Assist. The two star features that will wow showroom visitors are the huge panoramic glass roof and Head Up Display (HUD). There’s also Dynamic Roll Control which helps combat body roll.

Drivetrain wise, the 3008 is powered by the THP 156 engine from the Prince family of direct injection four-cylinder engines. The twin-scroll turbocharged unit pushes out 156 bhp and 240 Nm and is paired to a new six-speed automatic gearbox with Tiptronic. Power goes solely to the front wheels. Other goodies include leather, 17-inch alloys and an electronic handbrake.
